In 1901, architect Aleksandrs Šmēlings reconstructed the building while partially preserving the volume and façade composition of the earlier four-storey masonry building constructed in 1881 according to the design of architect L. H. Geigenmüller. The façade is enriched with Art Nouveau sculptural elements and ornamental details. Particularly remarkable are the four prominent cornice supports decorated with reliefs symbolising sculpture, painting, industry, and architecture.
The building is currently regaining its historical splendour – in 2024, the façade was renovated, water supply and sewage risers were replaced, and the staircase was restored.
