The five-story masonry rental building with shops, designed by architect Aleksandrs Šmēlings and built in 1903, is a significant architectural monument in Riga. This building stands out with its Renaissance-style gables, stylized Gothic details, and Baroque corner tower. The building created by Šmēlings forms a harmonious ensemble with the building at 55 Brīvības Street, also known as “Büngerhof,” on the opposite side of the street. Until other multi-story buildings were constructed, it was particularly notable in the surrounding environment, which was dominated by low-rise wooden buildings.

The building is distinguished by its rich and elegant ornamental architectural plasticity, giving it a unique character. Especially noteworthy are the staircase railings and elevator doors, which were made at A. Bīblers metalworking factory in Riga. Traditionally, the corner part of the building’s first floor always housed a pharmacy. In 2000, the pharmacy was restored, and its attractive interiors were harmoniously aligned with the Art Nouveau architecture of the building, recreating the authentic elements of the structure in certain details.
